Thank you for finding us. However, after much thoughtful reflection we are announcing that we are selling the property that houses Fifth Street Writers in Ames, Iowa. While we still believe in our mission to create healthy communities through the art of writing and have seen how Fifth Street Writers has promoted this mission, keeping the organization afloat has been emotionally challenging. Creating and sustaining this space has been a meaningful and deeply rewarding endeavor, but it has also required an ongoing level of time, responsibility, and emotional labor that our founder has decided is no longer sustainable. After a mile-stone birthday, our founder, Ana McCracken is looking forward to slowing down her lifestyle.

Of note, some of the Ames Writers Collective outreach programs will continue to exist as they did prior to the purchase of Fifth Street. In particular, Writing Circle Mondays hosted through the John Stoddard Cancer Center in Des Moines. For the moment we will continue to host the Swift Youth Writers on the 2nd Sunday of the month and Adult Generative Writing Groups on the 4th Saturday of the month at the Ames Public Library. We will no longer host the Swift Literary Festival at the Annual Octagon Art Festival.
